LOS ANGELES, Calif. Runic Films is delighted to announce that internationally acclaimed actress, Gigi Edgley, will star in their next project, “Hashtag” a thought-provoking science fiction drama that examines a future where social media dominates those who unknowingly push the limits of technology to achieve fame.

Ben Alpi, the director and co-writer of  “Hashtag” says “I can’t tell you how excited we are to be bringing this film to light. It is perfect timing for this subject and having the versatile Gigi Edgley to open the doorway to the future will be amazing.”

This sexy, sleek, sci-fi thriller will captivate audiences around the globe. The talented and beautiful Edgley, of Little Empire Productions, already has millions of online followers and fans around the world. She is most widely known for her role as Chiana on the critically acclaimed sci-fi television series, “Farscape” and had a leading role in the Australian series, Rescue Special Ops., In the U.S., Edgley recently hosted , Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, an American reality television game show on the Syfy cable network. She also had appeared in the USA network TV miniseries, “The Starter Wife.”

In “Hashtag” Edgley will play “X”, the ultimate social media maven, a charismatic woman attracting the attention of tens of millions of online followers. “X” has everything she’s ever thought she wanted. She’s #famous and she’s #watched, but is her life #real

“I completely want to devour this script. I adore X. She is a complex, diverse and troubled soul. I am extremely excited to fall into her restless being. It is so refreshing to be wholeheartedly infatuated with this story,” says Gigi Edgley.

Ben Alpi was inspired by a TED talk to write a story that centered on our cultural obsession with speed and technology. The script for “Hashtag” co-written by Ben Alpi (Cowboy Creed, Silver Lining) and Kevin Rubio (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ben 10: Omniverse, Green Lantern: The Animated Series), is an insightful and imaginative tale that examines the consequences of the rapid rise of social media in our everyday lives. This story offers a unique twist of what could happen when those obsessed with virtual information and celebrity are unable to disconnect.

“Hashtag” will be funded through a Kickstarter campaign due to be launched next week, and filming will take place in December 2014/January 2015 in Los Angeles.

Mini Epic Western ‘Cowboy Creed’ Complete!

From the director’s apple box…

As the director and writer of the short film Cowboy Creed, I’m very happy to announce that our mini epic is complete! With a Herculean effort by our post production staff including Jeff Handy our editor, Joel Bellucci our visual effects supervisor, Joe Terrana our music composer and performer, Ralph Miller our sound designer and foley artist, Chris Orazi sound mixer, David Berry color correction, and myself working a bit of movie magic as well, we completed the film in time for our first private screening at the Cahuenga Theater in Hollywood. Invited to the intimate showing were our high-level Kickstarter donors, cast and crew, and friends and family including an Oscar-winning producer, and cinema immortals Walter Koenig, Richard Bustillo, and Greg Jein amongst others. I’m glad to say without any bias (ahem!) that the film looks and sounds fantastic in the theater! We had a Q&A session after the screening with the attending cast and crew which was a lot of fun. The reception of the film was quite positive, one of the big questions being ‘how did you fit so much into the film on such a tight budget?’ That is of course thanks to a dollop of ingenuity and an amazing team who reduced their rates to help put as much quality on the screen as possible. Many thanks to the cast and crew for their efforts in helping bring my vision to fruition.

Our next step is to submit Cowboy Creed to festivals around the world. Keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to see the film in a fest near you!

Until next time!
Ben
Director/Writer of Cowboy Creed
